This was with Natalie from the OUMS. We did a traverse of Blencathra, ascending via Sharp Edge (I/II) and descending via Hall’s Fell Ridge (I). The weather conditions could only be described as “most excellent”!
Video says “Striding Edge” which is incorrect and is my f*ck up Apologies, I’m very red faced re that! Don’t know what I was thinking. I’d say it was a long day but it wasn’t
Another hook up with Gav from UKClimbing and another winter gully in stunning weather conditions. We did Easy Gully on Dow Crag in the English Lake District. It’s a grade II winter route which gets * (1 star) in the guidebook.
Gav took the lead on this 120m gully which is just to the left of A Buttress. I was a bit worried about my boots and only had one axe #excuses. There was very little scope for placing gear and the gully was fairly easy, so in retrospect it would have been fine to solo.
The only real difficulty (imo it *looked* difficult and I spent a bit working out the moves!) was a small rocky step near to the top. Yes, I made it, and making those moves felt pretty good According to the UKC guidebook ‘higher up use a traverse on the left wall to pass a steep section’ so maybe we shouldn’t have taken it directly?

climbing doesn’t solve my problems, and it never will. So why, then, do I sometimes insist on “climbing it out” when life gets wonky? And why do I subsequently feel better (or best) when my body is shredded and tired
